Gallery 64

BBB’s striking contemporary design for a 12-story apartment building complements DC’s newly opened Rubell Museum DC, itself a transformation of a historic school building.

Gallery 64 is the new 12-story apartment building that anchors this reimagined historic site in Southwest DC. The residences, 20% of which are dedicated to affordable housing, are configured as studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. In addition, Gallery 64 includes 19 two-level, townhouse-style residences that will activate the street with increased pedestrian connectivity and visual interest. The redevelopment also includes the preservation and repurposing of the existing school building into the Rubell Museum DC, a world-class contemporary art museum.

The minimalist concept of Gallery 64 echoes the adjacent museum interiors, featuring polished concrete floors and simple details that provide a backdrop for an original collection of art throughout the lobby and amenity areas. BBB's design captures expansive views of the Capitol and the National Mall, and maximizes sustainability by including more than 21,000 SF of green roof. An underground garage extends beyond the footprint of the new building, allowing space for new plantings and an expansive and beautifully landscaped community oasis that connects Gallery 64 and the museum.
