The adaptive reuse of a storied Embassy Row hotel safeguards its historic legacy while crafting a contemporary, luxury residential environment tailored to the needs of seniors in Washington, DC.
The Fairfax Hotel at 2100 Massachusetts Avenue NW was a favorite destination for politicians, diplomats, and prominent visitors to Washington, DC, in the 1950s and ’60s, before becoming the second location of Maplewood Senior Living’s contemporary urban brand, Inspīr. The thoughtful design embraces comfort and clarity, catering to diverse physical and cognitive needs and creating an inclusive hospitality environment that empowers seniors of all abilities to thrive. Drawing on BBB’s expertise in urban planning and wayfinding, the interior design—employing a spectrum of color and a rich material palette for a distinctively regional sensibility of luxury—creates “paths” and “landmarks” in response to the specific requirements of both assisted living and memory care. A rich suite of amenities helps residents find familiarity and comfort in establishing a daily routine, while private apartments ranging from studios to two-bedrooms balance safety and security with independent living. The result fosters the qualities of home, health, and joy that are central to the Inspīr brand.
